La Raza Justice Movement joins 1st Annual Little York Dia De La Raza Parade: Condemns 287(g)

Description: Days before a final vote on 287g by the Harris County Commissioner’s Court, La Raza Justice Movement and other community groups will participate in a parade to call for a moratorium on all immigration enforcement and to speak against the 287(g) program.

Houston, Texas, October 9, 2009 – La Raza Justice Movement accepted an invitation by the Small Business Group of Little York and 59 to participate in a parade on October 24, 2009 details on attached flyer.

El Dia de La Raza, a cultural staple in the Mexican community, highlights important concepts in Mexican history. Recently, many progressive groups have started celebrating the day as a day of resistance against colonialism.

La Raza Justice Movement, CRECEN, Pastors in Action, Aztec Dance Group Mitotiani and other community groups will participate as one contingent of approximately ten others in the parade. Our contingent will denounce the abuses of 287(g) and will call for the Harris County Commissioner’s Court to vote against a new agreement regarding 287(g).
