OUR TAXES ARE BEING SPENT TO VIOLATE THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF DEPORTED FAMILIES WHEN THEIR ONLY CRIME IS THAT THEY WORK WITHOUT DOCUMENTS
We must speak out against this appalling treatment of undocumented immigrants.
We will report the abusive treatment of victims who are treated inhumanely after being arrested under the Operation Streamline Program
Operation Streamline was implemented in 2005 ordering federal criminal charges for every person who crosses the border without documents. It is morally reprehensible to spend needed resources causing undue suffering for undocumented immigrants rather than spending time and our tax money on prosecuting serious crimes, including, gun and drug trafficking, organized crime, bank robbers, rapists, and those who violate probation. Federal prosecution of immigration offenses has continued during the first months of Obama’s administration.
We will protest the misuse of our taxes which are diverting needed resources for Operation Streamline “Zero Tolerance” Program paying up to $13 million a month per trial.
Attendees: Victims affected by Raids, Community Activist, Lawyers, Social Educators, and Union Leaders representing: Los Angeles and Arizona .
When: Monday October 19, 2009 , at 11:00 am
Where: 535 North Alameda , Los Angeles 90012
Reason: We must report the following:
Upon their arrest, immigrants suffer inhumane violations at an alarming rate… While being detained, immigrants are suffering both physical and psychological torture, as punishment if they do not sign their deportation order.
According to data provided by public defender; Isabel Garcia of Pima County , Tucson Arizona , Congress spends our tax money to prosecute the undocumented. The Tucson Federal Court receives $13 million per month for the trials of 70 undocumented immigrants a day in a two hour period, with the outcome always being "guilty".
We will have the testimony of a victim who has suffered as a result of Operation Streamline Program. Elvira Ayon a Domestic Violence applicant, and mother of two, was the victim of an ICE RAID. No consideration was given to the fact that she had been accepted by the Department of US Immigration Service under VAWA (Violence Against Women Act). She refused to sign her deportation order and was incarcerated for 3 weeks. During that time, she was tortured physically and psychologically. Many like Elvira Ayon are arrested in California , transferred to Arizona , put on trial, and are ultimately treated inhumanely.
