We would like to thanks all of our supporters that attended our 2009 Dia de Los Muertos event on November 2, 2009. The attendence was excellent and a great time was had by all who participated. Time has passed us by so fast and here we are at the near end of another year. The Taller has much to be thankful about as we have had a fairly good year.

So, on behalf of the Board of Directors and staff here at the Taller we would like to extend our deepest wishes to all of our supporters, funders, instructors,students and all of your families in hoping you have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Mr. Bene Medina

Conjunto Heritage Taller instructor Bene Medina was honored in Brownsville TX. this past month and inducted into the 2009 South Texas Conjunto Association Hall of Fame and also received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Conjunto Heritage Taller is very fortunate to have two of the best instructors of traditional Conjunto accordion in Bene Medina and Lorenzo Martinez.

STHF South Texas Hispanic Fund Awards Conjunto Heritage Taller $2,500.00

The Conjunto Heritage Taller was awarded $2,500.00 by the South Texas Hispanic Fund at its 2009 Ringside Gala held November 6, 2009. The South Texas Hispanic Fund is managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation.

The funds received will be used to help support the intergenerational programs that exist at the Conjunto Heritage Taller. The Taller is very appreciative to the foundation for this award.


Mr. Martín de Jesús Martínez

Taller Cultural Historian

Board Member

Martín de Jesús Martínez is a board member and Cultural Historian of the Conjunto Heritage Taller board. He is a founding member of the Conjunto group "Los Padrinos" which plays traditional Conjunto music. The band has been around since 2005 and he enjoys performing and playing the accordion. He is also creator of the Conjunto social network "Conjunto is Life" ( As a musician his favorite instruments are guitar and accordion. His first accordion teacher was the late conjunto legend Valerio Longoria. One of his passions is to continue to promote and preserve traditional Conjunto music, which is why he was honored to be asked to be a part of the Conjunto Heritage Taller. He works as Director of Continuing Education at the of the Mexican American Catholic College. He was born, raised and presently lives in the southside of San Antonio TX. He is married to Veronica and has 4 children. The Taller is fortunate and happy to have such a dedicated board member.

Taller Student

Rito Pena is a student at Robert B. Green Elementary and is 10 years old. Rito Pena has been a student of the Taller for over a year and shows much promise as a young student of Mr. Bene Medina. Rito enjoys his instruction classes with Bene Medina and is hoping to master the accordion and contribute to the history of conjunto folk music.

Come join San Anto Cultural Arts as they celebrate the dedication of their 37th mural "La Musica de San Anto," a mural dedicated to the memory and lives of legendary San Anto musicians.This commemorative mural pays homage to the lives and music of Randy Garibay, Clifford Scott, Rocky Morales, Felix Villarreal, Manny Castillo, Eva Garza, Doug Sahm, Valerio Longoria, Lydia Mendoza, and Rosita Fernandez. All of these individuals, while no longer with us, have had a profound influence on the musical fabric and heritage of this city Lead Muralist: David Blancas

Crew members: Raul Castellanos, Adriana Garcia, Cardee Garcia, Gerry Garcia, Juan Gonzales, Pramod Goshai, Christian Rodriguez, Rico Salinas, volunteer groups from City Year and Trinity University, and more
