HCSO INVESTIGATORS ARREST IMMIGRATION FRAUD SUSPECT
(HOUSTON, TX) – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office will announce this morning the details surrounding the arrest of a woman suspected of stealing thousands of dollars from Colombian nationals living in the Houston area.
With the help of numerous witnesses and the Consulate of Colombia, investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Theft Division have arrested Maria Jose Hurtado and charged her with aggregate theft. Investigators say Hurtado took monies totaling more than $100,000 from at least two dozen victims for immigration-related services she promised but never provided nor was authorized to perform. There may be more victims who have yet to come forward.
Representatives of the Consul General of Colombia in Houston will be present at the news conference.
Details of the case, as well as Hurtado’s mug shot will also be made available.
