Student-Led Action for Dignity Not Detention!
On April 10th students and community members from around Texas will be holding a rally in Raymondville, TX (the Rio Grande Valley). They will be speaking out against immigrant detention centers and calling for immigration policies that respect human rights!
There are two immigrant detention centers nearby which have been cited for human rights abuses by Amnesty International The Willacy County Processing Center, nicknamed “Tent City,” houses thousands of people for years in Mylar tents without adequate food or medical care or access to legal services. There have also been multiple instances of sexual abuse of the female detainees. In the other facility, the Port Isabel Detention Center, detainees are currently undergoing a hunger strike to highlight the abuses.
Our rally is part of the DIGNITY NOT DETENTION Campaign that protests these conditions and calls for immigration policies that respect human dignity!
