HOUSTON: APRIL 10TH — SAVE THE DATE FOR A HEALTHY STRATEGY SESSION ON CIR

Ingles/Espanol

On April 10th, from 2:30 to 5:30, we will gather at Plazas las Americas (Sharpstown Center) to strategize on the continuing battle for comprehensive immigration reform.

The March for America produced the largest demonstration on any issue under the Obama Administration, but had little impact on Capitol Hill.

Legislative visits drew a picture of a polarized Congress–the House members told us that there will be no vote on immigration reform until the Senate passes its bill. The House has led the way on difficult issues–health, financial regulations, energy, etc–and the Senate stalls. So unless they produce immigration reform legislation, the House will not budge. In the Senate, no legislative bill has been introduced so far and even with one, sixty votes are needed to pass immigration reform.

What strategy can we develop to ensure that immigration reform is a reality? How can we combine local legislative visits with the May 1st March? How can we sustain community participation under such a difficult political panorama?
