End: May 20 2010 – 9:30pm
The Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition sponsors this talk by Dr. Simone Brown, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas. Dr. Brown’s book project, Skin™: Surveillance, Technology and Race, questions how the historical remains of early surveillance technologies form part of the enabling conditions of certain new technologies, including biometrics. Professor Browne is currently working on a co-edited collection with Dr. Shoshana Magnet titled Feminist Surveillance Studies, and is co-editing with Dr. Ben Carrington a special issue of Qualitative Sociology on ‘Obama and the New Politics of Race’.
