Greetings Friends of Indigenous Cultures Institute,
The Board of Directors of our nonprofit organization would like to thank you for your abiding support of our efforts here in San Marcos to preserve and promote our Native American culture and heritage. Your attendance at our events and activities, your positive and enthusiastic comments, and the volunteer work donated by so many of you, have helped to build exciting and thriving Native programs that benefit all of our communities.
We are reaching out to you today for financial support for three new programs. We are trying to raise:
- $2,000 for our Sacred Springs Summer Arts Program – A day-time, summer arts camp for 25 middle-school-age, indigenous-Hispanic students and other youth interested in Native arts. We will conduct five full days of indigenous arts programming from July 18 through 22, 2011 at the Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos.
- $1,000 for The Xinachtli Project – A series of workshops, lectures, classes, and planning activities that will help us establish a K – 2nd grade school that uses ancient, indigenous teaching concepts and methods to enhance the education of Native and other students.
- $1,200 for Nakum (Coahuiltecan word that means “I speak to you”) – An online journal that encourages the research, development and academic writings of Native voices on the topic of Hispanic indigeneity.
Your contribution of $5, $10, or any amount you wish to share, will help us to match grants that we’re pursuing for these wonderful projects, and will be a strong statement of support for a Native community that is actively and successfully building bridges of understanding across cultures.
Please donate through our PayPal account that you can access on our website – www.IndigenousCultures.org – by clicking on the “DONATE” button at the top right hand corner of the page. If you prefer to send a check, please make it payable to Indigenous Cultures Institute and mail it to PO BOX 1414, San Marcos, TX 78667.
We will send you a letter of confirmation for your tax records, and our deepest gratitude for your unfailing commitment and generous contributions to our Native American community.
Thank you and we hope to see you soon,
Dr. Mario Garza
